okay, my number one most hated thing about work these days is people who call about jobs, who "have a friend who works for the company".
it's always "yeah, joe so-and-so over at the ft. lauderdale location told me that i should call you and apply for the new position you've got available."
argh.
most of the time, the position these people are calling about aren't available at all. so i tell them that. "well, for that location, i'm not seeing the job that you're calling about."
they're all "oh, you don't get it. i know the hiring manager over there. he told me that those positions just opened today."
they think this changes things, somehow. like they said some secret password that allows them to gain access to positions that i'd offer to any person who had the phone number, as though they're part of some clan destine cadre of humanity that deserves jobs more than anyone else, right off the bat.
i literally had a caller on thursday (i think) that i had to explain this to repeatedly. i was on the phone with this bitch for 15 minutes.
she didn't understand that i couldn't take her info or start a candidate file for that position if it simply wasn't available.
i told her over and over and over again that what might be happening is that whoever previously held that position may have left the company, and while their friend may have said that the position was open, they might not have started hiring for it yet.
i dunno, pardon me, but that doesn't seem like a concept that is too hard to wrap your head around.
i really wish i COULD have taken information from her, just so she would have shut the fuck up.
really, what i wish is that we could take detailed notes about the demeanor that people take with me, as a recruiter. i'd be making notes like "although i repeatedly described the situation to the candidate, she simply refused to accept the situation. do you really want this person working for you?", or "caller hung up like a rude cunt."
